99 brings Good Luck :) Albert Chambers wins against Covid.

At a time when we’re all surrounded by nothing but bad news, there’s finally one story that’s a breath of fresh air. A World War II veteran has recovered from COVID-19 at the age of 99 – and he’s used his experiences as a soldier to beat the disease.

The former British Army soldier is a reminder of what our men and women in uniform are really made of. Albert Chambers is an inspiration to us all, and his recovery can only be credited to our healthcare workers, who are tirelessly trying to save every singe life come hell or high water.

“When I get home I’m going to tell all of my neighbors how marvelous the nurses are here,” Chambers said in a statement released by the hospital. “I want to say ‘thank you very much’ to them. I appreciate every bit of what they have done for me. They couldn’t have been any better. I’ve been well kept and well looked after.”

In the statement, the veteran references his past hardships while in service: “During his time as a Cold Stream Guard, who at one time helped to protect Buckingham Palace, received a leg wound in Germany in the Second World War. He said: ‘I survived that.’”

Albert has previously fought the Nazis back in his prime, and survived being a prisoner of war during WWII. It’s no surprise that he has used his experience as a soldier to fight against the coronavirus. Albert will turn a 100 years old in just a couple of months.

The soldier’s grandson told media that he his grandfather as “pretty incredible”. “He’s not only survived the war and being in prison camp, now he’s won the battle with coronavirus,” he said.

Albert’s iron willpower came together with the hard work and skill of the nurses to help him get back home. As he left the hospital, the nurses gave him a guard of honour, while maintaining the right amount of distance.

Let’s continue to support our soldiers, whether they are in service or not, in all that they face during this terrible pandemic. Even as we put together this feel-good update, there are hundreds of our men and women in uniform taking on difficult jobs for our safety.
